This page is dedicated to Christiane Pierret, seashells' collector and talented painter, who resided several years in this island (Uvea). During her stay she has collected hundreds of Cypraea among others shells. A few years later she opened a small seashells' museum in Uturoa (Raitea) and opened her parcels where these treasures were sleeping. Many of these Cypraea have a particular aspect that we find in islands as far away as Kwajalein, Guam, Australia .... and very rare Cypraea rostrate and niger (Faioa).
Unlike Futuna Islands, Wallis has a lagoon, larger than that of Mauritius island (the total area of 159 km² lagoon, 96 km² in the central Ile Uvea), little pollution other than the of hog manure. The Wallisian is a great lover of pigs !!!!! and effluents of inhabited area (- 15 000 h.). It is a submerged volcano (consideration to large depths water surrounding). there is no perennial rivers so no input of fresh water or of alluvium outside the rainy periods, cyclonic.
